Project Description: Design, development and operation (in conjunction with Central Coalfields Limited) of the Piparwar opencast mine and integrated coal handling and coal beneficiation plant. This development has an operating capacity of 6.5-million t/a ROM coal production and 5.525 million t/a of washed coal. The mine is currently producing 8.0 million t/a ROM and 6.0 million t/a of washed coal. All phases of development and performance were achieved and demonstrated successfully before handing over to the client, CCL, in October 1997. This project is the most productive coal mine in India and is the first coal mine in the country to incorporate a large-scale washery for the thermal coal beneficiation. The Piparwar Project has received an award for Engineering Excellence from the Australian Institute of Engineers. In India the project has received many accolades, most notably from the Director General of Mine Safety, the authority for mining and mine development.
